Welcome to the Prep Blog 2019

Category : Foundation

It has been a great start to Prep this year.

As well as learning about the routines of school and how to make new friends we have made a start with out literacy and numeracy subjects.

In writing today we had a go at drawing and writing a response to our science experiment!

In Numeracy we have been working on matching numerals to collections. This has led to some great discussions around which numbers are larger and the students have been using the language of more and less.

In our classrooms we have WOW work walls. These walls will show the amazing work that the students have been doing.

Wee look forward to seeing everyone at the Prep BBQ next week and the information  session on the 27th

What happened to the wall?

Category : System

The damage to the prep courtyard wall was a fantastic prompt for writing today.

The students came up with their own stories about what might have caused the damage.

On Sunday I saw a rhino riding a monster truck and the truck crashed into the wall.

I think that a giant whale crashed into the brick wall because she wanted to eat berries for her family dinner

by Tanisha

One day 71 rhinoceros ran into the school and there was a crash and a bang and lots of bricks fell down the builders still haven’t finished the wall

On Sunday there were ten evil unicorns. They used their evil magic to blast a big hole in the wall.

They were angry because everyone thought they were cute!

A ghost began eating the school, then the sun began melting the ghost! Then a unicorn stood on the ghost.

A tiny little drop fell on the school and that tiny drop destroyed the school.

Money Play

Category : System

This week we have been exploring money during play. When you’re out shopping with your children encourage them to think about the cost of certain things and find appropriate coins when paying.

Here are a few other ideas for having fun with maths at home.

Check out some photos from the Prepfast! As you can tell, we had a great time.

Parent Helpers!

Category : Foundation

We have been very lucky with all the wonderful parent helpers we have had so far this year and the students love seeing their family members in the learning space with them.

It is not too late to help out either with reading or with one of our upcoming excursions.

To help with these events you will need a working with children check, which you can apply for at http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au  and unfortunately, we can’t have younger siblings tag along.

As part of our inquiry unit we will be exploring our local area and will be going for a community walks on the morning of Monday the 22nd of October, we would love to have some parent helpers to come along and help us investigate our environment and the types of rubbish we find.

Prep B and C will bb 9:50 to 10:40 (just after assembly) and A will be 10:40 to 11:30.

Swimming runs from the 3rd of December to the 14th of December and we will need parent helpers to walk with us to and from the pool. We will know session times closer to the date but it is likely to be after lunch.

Please see one of the Prep teachers to sign up to help!

100 days of school celebration

Category : Foundation , System

On Wednesday we celebrated our 100th day of school. Some students dressed up as 100 year olds were very convincing. Throughout the day we did activities about the number 100, had a visit from the year 5/6 group and even had some cake to celebrate!

Emergency Services Day

Category : Foundation , System

Our first dress up day was a great success. Many students dressed up as an emergency service worker and they looked great! We also had three special guests drop in and share some of the responsibilities and tools of their very important job.
