Book Week Cross-Age Activities

The art work students completed during the cross-age activities in Book Week was absolutely delightful.  There is such a buzz in the air when students get to work with other students across the school.  Friendships are made and it is wonderful to see the senior students helping the younger students with the activities.  I have put together a range of photos for everyone to enjoy.  The list below shows the Picture Story Book that was selected and the activity that matched.

We were so lucky to have Pam Anders (Delilah’s mother) talk to the 1/2 Learning Area about the wonderful work Oxfam does in our community and world wide earlier this month.  Students had the opportunity to write an Information Report after listening to Pam’s presentation and doing some on-line research.

We were very proud of the way students presented their information using headings and sub-headings effectively.

Scraps of Wool and Ribbon wanted!

Book Week is coming to Moreland next Monday when we have our Dress-up Day.  Students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite story book characters!  All students will be involved in cross-age activities to celebrate Book Week.  I am  collecting wool and ribbons for one of our Art Activities based on a short-listed picture story book.

If you have any scraps or odds and ends,  could you please drop in the box at the front office.  It would be appreciated if you could drop it in tomorrow or Thursday.

Many thanks.

Creating Toys – 1/2 Learning Area

Category : Grade 1 & 2's

Last Friday there was a buzz in the 1/2 Learning Area, as the students went to work making the models or prototypes of the toys they had designed.  The students were so creative in making their toys and worked incredibly hard.  Special thanks to Sasha (Candy Sparkles) for her help working with the students!  Enjoy the photos…

Mana – Costumes for 1/2 Students

Category : Grade 1 & 2's

We are looking forward to the visit from Mana and the performance that students will be involved in on Thursday, 24th August at Moonee Valley Racecourse.

Our students are required to wear white t-shirts and shorts (any colour).  Can you please make sure they do not have large logos – small, discreet ones are fine!

For those families who have not yet paid, can you make sure the money is paid by the end of the week.  We are sure you and your children will gain so much from the experience.

Toy Design and Model Making – Friday 18th August

Category : Grade 1 & 2's

Tomorrow all students will have the opportunity to make a 3-D model or the “real thing” of the toy they have designed.  We will have lots of craft supplies, paper, some play dough etc.   If your child needs any special things like material,  can you send  along with your child tomorrow.  We are hoping all students will be creative and imaginative in making their creations.  They do not have to be perfect creations – we are hoping for the students to show innovation and problem solving skills.

Meet Some Well-Loved Toys

Category : Grade 1 & 2's

We have some wonderful pieces of writing from students in the Learning Area.  Their task was to write a description of their toys.

In their writing they were required to write a short paragraph introducing their toy.  The second paragraph was to provide a description or some information about the toy and the final sentence or paragraph to close the piece.  The students then published their work and did some of the most beautiful illustrations.

ENJOY!!

Damaged Toys Wanted in the 1/2 Learning Area

Category : Grade 1 & 2's

As part of our Integrated Unit of Studies on “Toys” – the students will be dismantling and examining how different toys are made.  They will look at the parts that make up a toy, how different toys move and the materials used to make the toys.    If you have any toys at home that you could donate to our research – please send them in this week.

Thanks from the 1/2 Learning Area Team
